Ep 97 - Movies for Lent: Mass - Jason Tripp & Adam Kline

The final Movies for Lent episode of the season has arrived!

Jason and Adam, pastors and movie-lovers, are hosting Movies for Lent: Conversations at the Intersection of Faith & Film.

You can participate in the live watch experience and discussion on Wednesdays over zoom (join the Movies for Lent facebook group for more info), or participate on your own by using these podcast episodes as a jumping-off point for reflection or discussion in your own communities.

This week’s selection is Mass (2021).

Theme: Forgiveness
Lectionary Scripture: Luke 23:32-34
Discussion Questions:

  1. After viewing ‘Mass’ what thoughts and impressions lingered as the credits rolled and beyond? Why?

  2. From a cinematic perspective, what did you enjoy about the film? What worked for you? What didn’t?

  3. Mass is an unflinching look at life after experiencing a horrific trauma. How do each of the four parents in the film deal with grief? What is the trajectory of their character arcs through the film?

  4. In our Good Friday lectionary passage, Jesus displays the forgiveness of God in the midst of the trauma of the crucifixion. What is the place and priority of forgiveness in the Kingdom of God? What are the barrier to receiving and extending the forgiveness of God?
